“The story is a huge exaggeration, Anne is on a special diet, but is not looking to lose that much weight and she’s consuming more than 500 calories a day. She just needs to look more frail as she is playing a prostitute who is dying of tuberculosis.”

Hathaway, 29, is playing mother and prostitute Fantine in the 2012 film adaptation of Victor Hugo’s classic novel Les Misérables, and has reportedly been ordered by the film’s director, Tom Hooper, to lose 16 pounds in less than 20 days. The sudden weight loss is for her character’s tragic death scenes. According to the Daily Mail, she’s consuming just a few apples a day and some protein, usually in the form of a protein shake, in order to shed the weight.

Anne Hathaway Becomes A Producer For The First Time In ‘Puzzler’
